Presidency and Health Scrutiny
President Donald Trump is scheduled for a medical and dental checkup this month, marking his fourth publicized visit to medical experts since returning to office. The White House describes this as part of an annual physical and regular preventive care.
As Trump approaches his 80th birthday next month, he will visit the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on May 26, according to a brief statement from the White House.
Concerns Over Health Reporting
The president’s health has generated significant scrutiny. Trump himself expressed regret over undergoing imaging on his heart and abdomen last year, as it raised public questions about his health status.
Despite frequently criticizing former President Joe Biden for age-related health issues, Trump has claimed to feel good for his age. He mentioned feeling the same as he did 50 years ago, joking about his minimal exercise routine.
Medical Evaluations and Findings
Presidents have considerable discretion in disclosing health information. After an annual physical in April 2025, Trump’s doctor reported that he was deemed “fully fit” to serve as commander in chief and noted that he was 20 pounds lighter than a previous checkup that indicated he was bordering on obesity.
Earlier medical evaluations revealed that Trump had chronic venous insufficiency, a common condition in older adults. His physician attributed some bruising on his hands to frequent handshaking and aspirin use, which Trump takes to mitigate risks of heart attack and stroke.
Regular Health Maintenance
In addition to routine checkups, Trump received his yearly flu shot and a COVID-19 booster in October during a semiannual physical. His upcoming dental evaluation follows recent visits to a local dentist near his estate in Florida, where he often spends weekends.
The forthcoming checkup is scheduled shortly after Trump is expected to return from a summit in Beijing.
